In almost every shop, a small group of customers accounts for a big share of sales. They buy for themselves, for gifts and for their families. They send their friends to you. They forgive the occasional mistake.
These are your VIPs. Most shops know a few by name, but few look after them on purpose.
Find your VIPs
Your sales records already tell you who they are. Look for customers who:
- buy often, with several purchases in the last year
- spend more, with a high total over time
- buy recently, having visited in the last few months
- bring others, through referrals or family members on the same account
In WatchSense you can tag these customers as VIP and filter them in one click, so they never get lost in the full list.
Make them feel recognised
VIP treatment doesn't have to be expensive. What matters is that it's personal:
- Remember them. Greet them by name and know what they bought last time.
- Give early access. Let them see new stock or festival collections before everyone else.
- Celebrate their dates. A warm birthday or anniversary message, perhaps with a small gift.
- Add small extras. A free service, a priority repair or gift wrapping on the house.
- Say thank you. A personal note after a big purchase goes a long way.
Turn regulars into VIPs
The next VIPs are already in your list. They're the customers on their second or third purchase. Help them along:
| Stage | What to do |
|---|---|
| First purchase | Thank-you message and care tips |
| Second purchase | Recognise the return: "Great to see you again" |
| Third purchase | Invite them to your VIP list |
| VIP | Early access, special dates and personal attention |
Don't let VIPs drift away
Even loyal customers go quiet. Life changes, a competitor opens nearby or they simply get busy. Watch for VIPs who haven't visited in a while and reach out personally, with a message from the owner rather than a generic offer.
Measure the VIP effect
Track how many VIP customers you have, their share of total sales and how often they visit. If the group grows and stays active, your shop has a stable base no discount war can shake.
Lifetime customers aren't won with one great sale. They're built one thoughtful message at a time, and the right system makes sure none of those messages are forgotten.
